In response to the recent article advertised in Creamer Medias Engineering News, we at the South African Capital Equipment Export Council (SACEEC) fully endorse the ‘Made in Africa’, the ‘Proudly Produced in Africa’ initiative.

Our current regional trade is approximately 15% in comparison to the EU which is over 60%. We therefore appeal to all local manufacturers in South Africa to fully support such an initiative as it is extremely vital to grow the local manufacturing in Africa.

Africa cannot afford to be exporting our labour by the huge amounts of imports into the continent. We need to take serious note of our unemployment rate throughout Africa and start a serious local manufacturing campaign to ensure that we employ our own local people and grow our own economy.

In conclusion, we are involved with many initiatives across the African continent regarding local manufacturing and will continue doing so.
